A structured opportunity for contemplation, prayerful reflection and spiritual, physical and intellectual refreshment.
A unique experience to explore our common Christian heritage, the essence of Celtic Christian spirituality and its impact on developing spirituality in schools.
An opportunity to discern and discover at first hand, the place of pilgrimage and retreat for primary school pupils.
To receive a resource pack of material, including historical time lines, music CDs, liturgy resources and prayers in the Celtic style, all for use with staff and pupils.
2 days in 2008 depending on tide times
Proposed Draft Programme:
Thursday
10.30 Brief introduction, Pilgrimage Prayer and departure
from a South or West Yorkshire school.
11.45 Comfort break at Washington Service Station.
12.45 Arrive at St Paul's Jarrow (life-time home of St
Bede), for exploration and pilgrimage service,
followed by light lunch
14.30 Departure for journey to Holy island, pausing for
comfort break.
16.30 Arrive Holy Island: registration, room allocation,
personal space and tea.
17.00 A half hour introductory talk on Holy Island and
Celtic Christian spirituality (weather permitting -
overlooking Cuthbert's Island).
17.30 Personal space.
18.45 Bar
19.00 Dinner in Manor House.
21.00 Evening Prayer on the beach.
21.30 Bar and personal space.
Friday
08.30 Breakfast.
09.30 Morning Prayer in St Mary's Church.
09.45 Personal time: to be, to wander, to see, to
experience the peace of this wonderful island.
10.45 Gather in St Aidan's Catholic Church.
11.00 Depart Holy Island.
11.40 Arrive Bamburgh for visit to St Aidan's Church,
overlooking Holy Island, coffee and closing
pilgrimage prayer.
12.45 Depart Bamburgh.
14.00 Arrive Washington Service Station for comfort
break and light lunch.
14.45 Depart Service Station for journey back to West or
South Yorkshire.
16.30 Return (expected time of arrival 16.30-17.00).
